This was an exceptionally fantastic fight that not only addressed every doubt regarding Sean O’Malley, but also demonstrated Petr Yan’s talent, with “Sugar” taking the split decision win.

Sean O’Malley put up a spectacular performance, injuring Yan in the first round and cutting him with a massive knee in the third, while the previous champion made continuous adjustments and had extended periods when he dominated the action. It was an extraordinary back-and-forth in which each guy had to dig deep and discover methods to succeed, which he did several times during the competition.

This is a huge win for Sean O’Malley, who is now undefeated in his previous five fights and has taken a huge stride forward in the bantamweight class. Yan is in an unusual situation, having gone 1-3 in his past four bouts, with the win earning him the interim championship and all three losses being tight, debatable matches. You couldn’t ask for more than high drama and fantastic theatre.
