Kai Kara-France established his case for a chance at the flyweight championship after defeating Askar Askarov by unanimous decision. Kai Kara-France received overall scores of 29-28.

Kai Kara beats down Askar Askarov
In the second minute, Askarov got Kai Kara-France on his back and swiftly proceeded to his opponent’s back. With two minutes remaining, Kara-France climbed to his feet, but Askarov stayed on his back and pushed for the rear-naked choke. However, the Kiwi survived the first round, and in the second, Kara-France effectively resisted Askarov’s takedowns and started tagging and startling him with heavy blows upstairs in the closing 90 seconds of the frame.

In the final round, Askarov went all-in for the takedown, but Kara-France resisted effectively and was able to separate and return to searching for the finishing punches. And, although Askarov’s strokes were good, there were enough of them for the birthday kid from New Zealand to win.
