UFC 284: Alexander Volkanovski suggests Islam Makhachev rematch in Abu Dhabi: ‘My turn to get booed’

The second meeting between Alexander Volkanovski and Islam Makhachev should, in his opinion, take place in Abu Dhabi. After failing in a unanimous decision defeat at UFC 284 in Perth, Australia, featherweight champion Volkanovski (25-2 MMA, 12-1 UFC) hopes to have a second chance against lightweight champion Makhachev (24-1 MMA, 13-1 UFC).

Volkanovski is eager to go to hostile territory to take another shot at Makhachev, who has attended multiple training camps in the United Arab Emirates, now that he has had the chance to become a UFC dual champion in his own nation. “Shall we repeat it? Maybe Abu Dhabi,” Alexander Volkanovski said to Makhachev on his YouTube channel after the bout. “It’s my time to hear boos in Abu Dhabi; you deserve one.

“Abu Dhabi, make the rematch happen. That’s fair, I agree. Strongly finishing the bout was Alexander Volkanovski. Before the horn sounded, he dropped Makhachev and crashed heavily on the ground. Volkanovski, who was dissatisfied, believed he had done enough to win the fight but wished he had been more effective in the early rounds.

On the scorecards of the three judges, Makhachev received the first and second rounds. Why weren’t there a few more rounds possible? After the bout, Alexander Volkanovski stated as he made his way back to the dressing room. I’m going to hold myself accountable because, as I stated, I could have done more.
