T20 World Cup: How many times have Pakistan and New Zealand faced each other?

Pakistan cricket team will face New Zealand in the T20 World Cup semi-final on Wednesday at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Prior to this World Cup, the two teams faced each other six times in the last seven T20 World Cups.

If the history of the T20 World Cup is seen, then Pakistan’s pile is heavy compared to New Zealand. Out of the six matches played between the two teams in the T20 World Cup, Pakistan has won four and New Zealand has won two.

T20 World Cup 2007

In the first T20 World Cup played in South Africa in 2007, Pakistan and New Zealand competed in the semi-finals of the tournament. In this match played in Cape Town, New Zealand scored 143 runs while batting first. Pakistan had achieved the target of 144 runs for the loss of four wickets in the 19th over. Pakistani fast bowler Umar Gul took three wickets by giving only 15 runs in four overs in this match and was declared the player of the match.

T20 World Cup 2009

In the T20 World Cup 2009, both the teams once again faced each other, and this time again the Pakistan team seemed to dominate New Zealand. Batting first, New Zealand was bowled out for just 99 and Pakistan easily achieved the 100-run target in the 14th over with the loss of four wickets. Pakistani fast bowler Umar Gul took five wickets by giving 6 runs in this match and was declared man of the match.

T20 World Cup 2010

For the first time in the history of the T20 World Cups, New Zealand won against Pakistan in 2010. In the group match of the World Cup played in the West Indies, New Zealand had given a target of 134 runs to Pakistan to win. Pakistan team lost this match by one run. New Zealand fast bowler Aain Buttler scored 19 runs to guide three Pakistanis to the pavilion and was awarded the man of the match award for his performance.

T20 World Cup 2012

In the T20 World Cups 2012 match between New Zealand and Pakistan, Pakistan batted first and set New Zealand a target of 178 runs to win. In pursuit of this target, the New Zealand team scored 164 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted 20 overs, and this match was won by Pakistan by 13 runs. In this T20 match in Sri Lanka, Pakistani batsman Nasir Jamshed was declared the man of the match for scoring 56 runs off 35 balls.

T20 World Cup 2016

In the T20 World Cup, 2016 played in India, Pakistan and New Zealand once again faced each other at the ground in Mohali. New Zealand had given Pakistan a target of 181 runs to win in the allotted 20 overs. Pakistan team failed to achieve this target and New Zealand managed to win this match by 22 runs.

New Zealand batsman Martin Guptill scored 80 runs off 48 balls and was awarded the man of the match award for this aggressive batting.

T20 World Cup 2021

The last time the two teams met in the T20 World Cup was last year in Sharjah. In this match, New Zealand scored 134 runs while batting first. Pakistan easily achieved this target at the loss of five wickets. Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf took four wickets by giving 22 runs in this match and was declared Man of the Match.
