Australia continued their strong play in the competition and ensured a top-two finish in the round-robin rounds by defeating archrival New Zealand by a massive margin of 86 runs at the historic Lord’s. Usman Khawaja and Alex Carey’s tenacious partnership and Mitchell Starc’s outstanding bowling performance helped Australia mount a comeback and secure a resounding victory.
Starc became the first bowler in World Cup history to take three wickets with his five against the Kiwis. Additionally, it was Starc’s second World Cup five-wicket performance against the Black Caps.
Mitchel Starc took Six Wickets
In game 20 of the 2015 World Cup, Starc tormented the Kiwis, taking six wickets from them in Auckland. This was Starc second wicket in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2019, following his devastation of the West Indies in Australia’s 15-run victory over the Caribbean team at Trent Bridge in Nottingham.
With 24 dismissals under his belt, Starc is dominating the top wicket-takers list for Australia and is in scorching form with the ball. The Australian quick bowler has now claimed 46 wickets in the last two World Cups.
Australia scored a modest 243/9 in 50 overs thanks in large part to Khawaja and Carey. Khawaja and Carey received final scores of 88 and 71, respectively.
