The leg-spinner all-rounder went on to deliver the 15th over of Scotland’s second innings, with the run rate increasing but the chase still alive in what had been a close affair in Benoni. But the 18-year-old placed South Africa on the cusp of a stunning victory, their first of the tournament, with three wickets in three balls, leaving the Scots reeling at 60/8.

A flighted delivery with the second ball of the over lured Maryam Faisal into a big shot, but she was fooled in the air and a top edge looped up to give keeper Karabo Meso a straightforward catch. Niamh Muir was enticed into a drive off the following delivery, spooning the ball into the covers where skipper Oluhle Siyo clutched on to the catch at the second attempt.
