Pat Cummins, the captain of Australia, will not play in this month’s ODI tour of India because the seasoned fast bowler chose to stay at home for personal reasons. The important fast bowler, who just lost his mother to breast cancer, skipped the final two games of the Border-Gavaskar Test series to be with his bereaved family in Australia.
The three ODI matches in India that begin this week will be Cummins’ last for the month of March; in his place, former captain Steve Smith will once more serve as captain. Pat won’t be returning; he’s still taking care of what happened at home, according to Australia’s head coach Andrew McDonald.
“Pat and his family are in our thoughts as they deal with their loss,” Given that there are just three other quick bowlers in Australia‘s 15-player squad—Sean Abbott, Nathan Ellis, and Mitchell Starc—the country will be lacking in vital fast-bowling options without Cummins.

All-rounders Mitch Marsh, Marcus Stoinis, and Cameron Green can contribute with their seamers, while Australia has a wide range of spinners, including Ashton Agar, Adam Zampa, and Glenn Maxwell. The three-match series will play a significant role in Australia’s preparations for the ICC Cricket World Cup, which is expected to take place later this year.
