Star Pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi Back in Action
According to a press release from the PCB, Shaheen Shah Afridi will join the national squad as scheduled on Saturday, October 15, for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Australia 2022 in Brisbane, after undergoing his rehabilitation program at the Crystal Palace Football Club under the guidance of the PCB Medical Advisory Committee.
Shaheen Shah Afridi is also available to participate in Pakistan’s two exhibition games against Afghanistan and England on October 17 and 19, respectively. Shaheen Shah Afridi expressed his excitement at making it back in time for the World Cup throughout his recovery from injury and return to full fitness.
He continued by saying that since he was not playing for Pakistan, the last several months had been challenging for him. For the past ten days, I have been bowling six to eight overs with full run-up and pace without any issues. While I have enjoyed bowling and hitting in the nets, there is nothing that can compare to the atmosphere of a match, and I am eager to experience it.
Although the rehabilitation program has been demanding and difficult, I have really enjoyed it. Since I am in better shape than ever, I am eager to don the playing attire and light the fire. Shaheen Shah Afridi also expressed his gratitude to Crystal Palace FC and the PCB PCB Medical Advisory Committee for letting him utilize their first-rate facilities and for taking good care of him throughout the rehabilitation program.
Pakistan’s campaign gets underway against India on October 23 (Sunday), following the two exhibition games, at the storied Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). The Pakistani bowling attack has been strengthened by Shaheen Shah Afridi’s return. In the titanic IND versus PAK match, KL Rahul, Rohit Sharma, and Virat Kohli of India will need to watch out for Shaheen Shah Afridi’s infamous first spell blasts.
