In order to make a return in Pakistan Super League season 8, Karachi Kings launched a vicious spin assault on Sunday, defeating table-toppers Multan Sultans by a score of 66 runs. Before spinners wreaked havoc on the visitors’ batting order to dismiss Sultans for a pitiful 101, Tayyab Tahir scored a superb fifty on his debut to help the Karachi Kings reach a manageable 168-run total.

Imad Wasim, the captain, and the seasoned Shoaib Malik both took two wickets to further tighten their team’s control of the game. Tabraiz Shamsi and Shoaib Malik combined for six wickets. In his first game of the year, wrist spinner Shamsi showed what he is capable of as he went through the middle order of the Sultans, taking the vital wickets of David Miller, Khishdil Shah, and Usama Mir.

In response, Sultans got off to a strong start with openers Shan Masood and Rizwan scoring 41 runs before seamer Akif Javed dismissed the former on 25 to give the home team their first wicket in the fifth over. After the first dismissal, Multan lost control of the chase since none of their batters reached the 30s. Rizwan led the team in scoring with a shaky 29 from 25 balls until Malik removed him with a brilliant point catch from Tahir in the 11th over.
