PSL 2023: Usman Khan’s record-breaking 100 was ‘natural game’

Since its start, the Pakistan Super League (PSL) has rescued and elevated a number of cricketers from obscurity. Usman Khan, who was relatively unknown prior to this season, has gained attention because to his rapid century against the Quetta Gladiators, which was the fastest in PSL history and came off just 36 balls. The Multan Sultans’ opening batsman told Geo News that he had never even dared to imagine striking a century off just 36 balls in T20 cricket; instead, it just occurred naturally.

“I never considered doing this; I simply played my natural game, and it came naturally. I had not anticipated doing this, Khan remarked. Usman said he began playing cricket in Sheikhupura, but after moving to Karachi in an effort to gain more exposure, he was first spotted at Ramzan Cricket competitions. He had the chance to play for Sindh’s second XI but never in the starting lineup.

Usman relocated to the United Arab Emirates after considering attempting his profession in another nation as a result (UAE). Usman kept playing in the UAE. He was first selected by the Quetta Gladiators in the 2021 season, and for them, he scored 81 on debut, but he didn’t receive a decent run. He had also participated in the Bangladesh Premier League and T10.

Usman may have gained widespread attention thanks to his century in the PSL, but he still intends to keep trying his luck in the UAE. “You are aware of the conditions in Pakistan. After one season of participation, you are released. I’ll keep playing in the UAE because I think I can play international cricket there,” the player declared. “I don’t have any regrets or grievances.

If I had been given a fair opportunity here, I don’t know what would have occurred, Usman added. The athlete expressed his gratitude to the team for the chance and stated he is enjoying his stay with the Multan Sultans. I was waiting for my chance. I was unfortunate in the previous game, but yesterday, my hard effort delivered a result for me. I know that other openers on the team are much better than me.

“Rizwan had given me confidence and advised me to keep playing the way I naturally do. He advised me to slow down when I was in my 80s, but I said, “Let me play with the flow,” Usman added. The cricketer claimed that before going to bat, his main thought is to give his all for the team and that he never considers records. “Records are made to be broken. I’m pleased to have scored the PSL’s quickest century, but I’ll forget about this game when I play the next game.

In response to a query, the cricket player stated that he practises for at least five hours every day and that when a player devotes this much time to the field, his shot selection typically improves. “The only thing I want in my career is to excel in cricket and leave a lasting impression,” Usman concluded.
