Umesh Yadav was picked as Mohammed Shami substitute because he was absent for the most recent Australia series. It is unclear if the 32-year-old Bengal pacer will regain his health with the championship T20 match less than a month away. On October 16 in Australia, the highly anticipated T20 World Cup 2022 is scheduled to start.
The major competition will include 16 nations. In order to complete four spots in the “Super 12” stage, the remaining eight teams will compete in first-round matches.
Eight teams have already qualified for the championship event. Namibia, the Netherlands, Sri Lanka, and the United Arab Emirates are the four teams competing in Group A; Ireland, Scotland, the West Indies, and Zimbabwe are the four teams competing in Group B. In the “Super 12” stage, the eight qualified teams will be joined by the champions and runners-up of each group.
The squads for all 16 teams have already been revealed for the cricket spectacle. Even though none of their players are currently injured, they still have until October 9 to make modifications to it. They would have to ask the ICC for permission to make corrections after the deadline. The previous several games’ results have thrown a wrench in the works, and some clubs may seriously consider changing their roster.
For instance, Australia’s World T20 team does not include all-rounder Cameron Green. However, considering his outstanding performance in the T20Is against India, Australia would consider giving him an opportunity.
Mohammed Shami has received support from both critics and supporters of India, especially in light of the pace unit’s recent lackluster performances. They think Shami will do better than the other bowlers in the mix because of his pace and experience, which may be useful in Australia. The skilled bowler is now on standby.
Shami has allegedly been pulled out of India’s three-match T20I series against South Africa because he is still sick with Covid-19. He also missed the series against Australia. His successor was announced to be Umesh Yadav. It is unknown if the 32-year-old pacer will restore his fitness with the international competition less than a month away.
