Marnus Labuschagne’s incredible start to his Test career is reflected in another achievement: passing 3000 Test runs in just 51 innings.

MRF Tyres No.1 Test batter
In an esteemed list of all-time greats, only Sir Donald Bradman (33 innings) stands above Labuschagne, and the MRF Tyres No.1 Test batter shows no signs of slowing down. After passing a century late on day one of the day/night Test in Adelaide, Marnus marched to the milestone with ease, cashing in early on day two after seeing off the second new ball.

Because of his early work, Labuschagne matched West Indian Everton Weekes, who also reached the milestone in 51 innings, edging Bert Sutcliffe and Brian Lara (both 52 innings), the latter of whom was present to witness the achievement. Outside of Bradman, Labuschagne outperforms Neil Harvey (54 innings), Matthew Hayden (61), and the likes of Adam Gilchrist, Mike Hussey, and Steve Smith (all 63).

Labuschagne was dismissed by Devon Thomas for 163, his third century in as many Test innings, after combining in a 297-run partnership with Travis Head, who went on to make 175. After the dinner break, Australia passed the 500-run mark and declared their innings on 511/7. The hosts will now aim for a 2-0 series win as well as 12 World Test Championship points in order to qualify for the competition final in June 2023.
