Jasprit Bumrah is replaced by Mohammed Shami in India’s T20 World Cup lineup

Jasprit Bumrah’s replacement in India’s T20 World Cup team has been officially announced as Mohammed Shami by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Bumrah was dropped from India’s 15-man roster after suffering a chronic back problem during the most recent India-South Africa series.

The 28-year-old experienced the same problem during India’s July tour of England, and he didn’t play again until the T20I series between India and Australia before complaining of back soreness after two appearances.

Mohammed Shami is back in India’s Squad

On the other side, Mohammed Shami hasn’t played in a T20I for India since the World Cup in the United Arab Emirates last year. However, the 32-year-old played a significant role in Gujarat Titans’ successful IPL 2022 season.

In addition, Mohammed Siraj and Shardul Thakur were named by the All India Selection Committee as standbys, taking the place of Mohammed Shami and Deepak Chahar, who both suffered injuries during the India-South Africa ODI series.

Mohammed Shami has already joined the Indian team in Australia, but Siraj and Thakur will be arriving there soon. The all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja was also ruled out due to an injury he sustained during the 2022 Asia Cup, adding to India’s injury woes.

Prior to their Super 12 encounter against Pakistan on October 23rd at Melbourne Cricket Ground, the men in blue are slated to play Australia and New Zealand. They have already played two exhibition matches against Western Australia XI in Perth.
