Ireland has confirmed that they will trip to Bangladesh in March and April and play their first Test match in almost three years. Ireland’s first complete tour to Bangladesh will include three Day Internationals and three Twenty20 Internationals, followed by a one-off Test at Mirpur.

Of particular interest to players and fans alike will no doubt be the last fixture on the schedule – the match marks Ireland’s return to playing Test cricket. It will undoubtedly be a challenging experience in Asian conditions for our squad, but it will be invaluable to our players’ development knowing that we will be playing a great deal of cricket in Asia over the coming years.”

However, this visit marks a new chapter in the two countries history, with Ireland never before embarking on a senior tour of this scope. “After the series against India and England, Ireland’s visit to Bangladesh is another great event in our home season,” Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizam Uddin Chowdhury remarked. Despite the constraints of a hectic international schedule, the BCB and Cricket Ireland have a friendly and solid relationship, and the two boards have worked extremely closely to organize this bilateral visit. This also demonstrates the BCB’s dedication to the ICC Future Tours Programme.”

Richard Holdsworth, Ireland’s High-Performance Director of Cricket, added:
“Under the Future Tours Programme we will be playing a great deal of cricket in Asia, so these matches are crucial experiences for our players’ growth – as well as an opportunity to gain a glimpse into the team we will be playing in our last World Cup Super League matches in May. While the white-ball fixtures will be eagerly observed, surely greatest attention will be in the Test Match at the tail of the tour. Our return to Test cricket is very well appreciated, and this will be the first of several Tests in 2023. Thank you to the Bangladesh Cricket Board for collaborating with us to create a fantastic schedule.
