With victories with England at the World Cup, KKR in the IPL, and Sydney Sixers in the BBL, Trevor Bayliss has quite the coaching resume. The Indian Premier League’s Punjab Kings announced on Friday that Trevor Bayliss has been named as their head coach for the upcoming campaign. The announcement follows Anil Kumble’s separation from the team by almost a month. The team spent three years under Kumble without making the playoffs, and their long quest for an IPL championship continued.
Head Coach of Punjab Kings
Prior to leading England to the 2019 World Cup victory, Bayliss oversaw Kolkata Knight Riders during both of their 2012 and 2014 IPL championship seasons. He oversaw Sydney Sixers’ Big Bash League championship triumph as well. His previous IPL experience was with Sunrisers Hyderabad, a team that finished third in 2020 but received the wooden spoon the following year after only 3 wins in 14 games.
Speaking about his new chance, Bayliss stated, “I consider it an honour to serve as the Punjab Kings’ head coach. A successful franchise built on a solid foundation. I’m excited to work with a talented group of athletes who are eager to compete for awards.”
