Mirabai Chanu, silver medal – women’s 49kg weightlifting – Tokyo 2020
Mirabai Chanu, an ace weightlifter, overcame her disappointment in Rio 2016 to win silver in the women’s 49kg division with a total lift of 202kg. It was her maiden Olympic medal, and she became the second Indian weightlifter to do so after Karnam Malleswari. It was India’s first Olympic medal in Tokyo.
Lovlina Borgohain, bronze medal – women’s welterweight (64-69kg) – Tokyo 2020
Lovlina Borgohain earned a bronze medal in the women’s 69kg in her Games debut after losing in the semi-finals to top seed Busenaz Surmeneli of Turkey. Lovlina Borgohain had defeated Nien-Chin Chen of Chinese Taipei in the quarter-finals to secure a medal.
PV Sindhu, bronze medal – women’s singles badminton – Tokyo 2020
PV Sindhu, the first Indian woman, and just the second Indian athlete after Sushil Kumar won two individual Olympic gold. PV Sindhu won the bronze medal in the women’s singles after defeating China’s He Bing Jiao 21-13, 21-15. It was India’s third medal in the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, one more than they had in Rio in 2016.
Ravi Kumar Dahiya, silver medal – men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling – Tokyo 2020
Ravi Kumar Dahiya finished second behind two-time world champion Zavur Uguev of ROC in the final of the men’s 57kg freestyle wrestling. Ravi Kumar Dahiya had already secured an Olympic gold when he defeated Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Sanayev in the semi-finals. He was behind 2-9 at one point before mounting a dramatic comeback to win the medal.

Indian hockey team, bronze medal – men’s hockey – Tokyo 2020
The Indian men’s hockey team earned an Olympic medal for the first time in 41 years, after winning gold at the 1980 Moscow Olympics. After falling behind 3-1 at one point, India rallied to defeat Germany 5-4 to win the bronze medal. It is Indian hockey’s third Olympic bronze medal, following victories in 1968 and 1972, and their 12th overall.

Bajrang Punia, bronze medal – men’s 65kg wrestling – Tokyo 2020
Bajrang Punia, a wrestler, became the third Indian rookie to win a medal in Tokyo 2020. In the men’s 65kg freestyle wrestling playoff, Bajrang Punia defeated Kazakhstan’s Daulet Niyazbekov to win bronze. It was India’s sixth medal at the Tokyo Olympics, matching their best-ever haul in a single Olympics.
Neeraj Chopra – Gold medal – men’s javelin throw
With his gold medal in the men’s javelin throw at Tokyo 2020, Neeraj Chopra became India’s second individual Olympic winner, following Abhinav Bindra. It was India’s first Olympic medal in track & field. The medal was India’s eighth at Tokyo 2020, making it the country’s best-ever haul at a single Olympics. Neeraj Chopra won the gold medal with a throw of 87.58m.
