Ganguly, President of the BCCI, discusses on Bumrah’s fitness for the T20 World Cup

Jasprit Bumrah has been ruled out of the current T20I series against South Africa, but his participation in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 remains uncertain. Despite the news of his injury, BCCI president Sourav Ganguly is optimistic that Bumrah would be able to travel to Australia and compete in the T20 World Cup.

Ganguly told the Xtra Time digital station in Kolkata, “Bumrah is not out of the World Cup yet.” Earlier on Friday, a BCCI media release announced that India’s ace fast had suffered a back injury and was being treated at the NCA by their medical staff.

Bumrah had to have scans on his back, but Ganguly said he was crossing his fingers and that a decision will be made in the “next two or three days. Like Ganguly, Indian supporters will be hoping that Bumrah is pronounced fit to participate in Australia, which will improve the team’s chances of winning the event.

The Indian team will arrive in Australia on October 6 and play two practice matches against Australia and New Zealand on October 17 and 19. On October 23, they will kick up their T20 World Cup campaign against Pakistan in Melbourne.
