Ghana raced to a 2-0 first-half lead at the Education Stadium in Al-Rayyan, thanks to goals from Mohammed Salisu and Mohammed Kudus, before South Korea staged a second-half comeback, with Cho Gue-sung scoring two goals in three minutes to level the scores.

With 20 minutes remaining, Kudus restored the Black Stars’ lead, but the South Koreans refused to give up and desperately sought an equalizer to keep them in contention for the knockout rounds. South Korea stepped up their attacking game with 10 minutes of injury time added at the end of the second half, with captain and Tottenham Hotspur star Son Heung-Min having two good chances to level the scores again. The Ghanaian defense, however, frustrated Son and his teammates, with the African side’s third-choice keeper Lawrence Ati-Zigi denying them at every opportunity.
