FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: Iran beat Wales by 2-0, Dream of Wales is over now

It was a treat for all football fans in Iran when the country’s football team scored two late goals to defeat Wales in Group B of the World Cup 2022. Wales suffered its first defeat of the game as a result, but magnificent goals by Rouzbeh Cheshmi and Ramin Rezaeian kept Iran in the game.

Later in the game, Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was sent off, giving Iran a man advantage in the final minutes of the second half. Hennessey collided with Iranian attacker Mehdi Taremi as he raced out of his penalty area after failing to clear the ball. When the Iranian side appealed, a VAR check was performed, and Hennessey was given a yellow card by Guatemalan referee Mario Escobar. The referee later altered his decision, and Hennessey was ordered to leave the field, reducing the Welsh team to 10 men.

Wales now finds itself at the bottom of Group B, facing England on Tuesday. Wales must overcome England in the final group stage of the Qatar World Cup in order to advance to the knockout stages. On the other side, a big win keeps Iran’s prospects of qualifying alive. The Iranian squad, who had previously refused to sing the national song in order to demonstrate solidarity in the face of large anti-government rallies in their country, sang it enthusiastically.
