Babar Azam sets world record in T20 cricket

On Thursday in Lahore, during the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season eight Eliminator match against Islamabad United, Babar Azam became the player to reach the milestone of 9,000 runs in T20 cricket the fastest. Azam just needed 35 runs prior to today’s game to reach the milestone, which he completed with ease thanks to some outstanding strokes.

In the shortest format of the game, Azam went from 8,000 to 9,000 runs in just 27 innings. In the Gaddafi Stadium, Islamabad chose to bowl first after winning the toss against Peshawar. Azam scored 64 runs in 39 balls, using 10 fours to help. The winner of today’s match advances to tomorrow’s second Eliminator, which will also take place at the same location.

Multan Sultans overcame Lahore Qalandars in yesterday’s qualifier to secure their place in the PSL 8 championship game. But, in the second Eliminator, the defending champions will have another opportunity to advance to the championship game.

Pakistan’s prolific batter Azam is in command of Peshawar, while all-rounder Shadab Khan is in control of Islamabad, the reigning winner. During the league stage of the PSL 8, both clubs split the victories evenly.
