Farooqi’s first-over magic

“Continuing his brilliant form from Friday’s match, Fazalhaq Farooqi led Afghanistan’s charge against Pakistan once again, this time with a sensational first over. Within moments of Pakistan winning the toss and choosing to bat, Farooqi bowled a double-wicket maiden that set the tone for the rest of the innings. The first ball saw Saim Ayub edge to the keeper, with Gurbaz diving low to his left to take a stunning catch. Farooqi then dismissed Abdullah Shafique on the very next ball with an inswinging fuller delivery, leaving him with a fourth-successive T20I duck. Though Mohammad Haris hit a few quick boundaries, Afghanistan remained dominant, and the opener fell to Gurbaz after scoring a 15-ball 9.”

Imad, Shadab strike back

“After a shaky start, Shadab Khan and Imad Wasim steered Pakistan’s innings towards a respectable total. With half of the side back in the pavilion for just 63 runs, the task of reaching 100 seemed daunting. However, the duo displayed a combination of grit and aggression to consolidate and then launch an attack against Afghanistan’s formidable bowling attack. Initially, Rashid Khan was able to keep the batsmen in check, but the partnership eventually gained momentum and picked up pace. Imad’s six was the turning point, and the pair went on to score a brisk half-century off just 45 balls, with Shadab also contributing. The final four overs of the innings saw Pakistan scoring 42 runs, giving them a total that could be defended.”

Pakistan’s barren squeeze

“Rahmanullah Gurbaz got Afghanistan off to a flying start, hitting a six off Naseem Shah in the opening over, but Pakistan quickly tightened their grip on the chase. Boundaries were hard to come by, and despite the occasional four, Afghanistan struggled to maintain momentum after the Powerplay. Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran found it difficult to increase the scoring rate on a sluggish surface, as Pakistan’s bowlers put the brakes on the run flow. The pressure mounted on Afghanistan as they managed only one boundary in the previous nine overs, and Gurbaz’s frustration showed as he attempted a switch hit and got out to Naseem. However, Afghanistan did not lose wickets cheaply during Pakistan’s domination, which proved crucial in the end.”
